On Sunday, August 26, several members of the NSARC rose bright
and early to provide emergency communications Oshawa Cycling Clubs' Scugog
Circle Century Tour.
Ralph - VE3CRK was the ring leader and net control.
Ralph was also the one who got the club involved in this event.
Previously, CB and cell phones had been used to try to provide communications
but if you are familiar with the local geography you will quickly realize that
both failed to do the task at hand. Once again Amateur Radio came to the
rescue and performed flawlessly. Thanks, Ralph, for your strong
leadership.
Also assisting were Mike - VE3VCY, Glen - VE3LIZ, Ray -
VE3OUB, Anne - VE3KWI, Bob - VE3ADJ, Alex - VA3AMP, Howard - VE3TYQ, and Laird -
VE3LKS. Next year we will probably need a few more volunteers as some of
the support vehicles could have taken advantage of our services instead of
sporadically checking in at the checkpoints.
