Station X, GB2BP, Bletchley Park
The North Shore ARC would like to welcome Bill Collier,
G0TGU, and Verdun Webley, G0RKV, of the Milton
Keynes Amateur Radio Society of Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire, England.
Bill and Verdun are spearheading arrangements in England at Station X to make
contact with our Camp X station here in Canada during the Camp X special event weekend
commemorating the 55th anniversary of VE Day.
Bletchley Park Mansion, site of Station X, GB2BP.
Much is happening here in England to get ready for May 8th. We have arranged for
greetings messages from dignitaries to be exchanged from Bletchley Parks special event
station GB2BP to Camp X on both Sunday 7th, and of course Monday 8th at your specified
times.
We will also be operating from Station X, the original transmitting room in the top of
Bletchley Park Mansion. This has now been restored to its original state, and was used by
MI6 during the war to send messages to agents in neutral countries in Europe, and also for
messages to, and from resistence movements in occupied countries. As it is highly likely,
that agents trained at Camp X will have used this facility after being dropped in occupied
countries, the Bletchley Park Trust, have allowed us to use it for this special day. It is
situated next door to Churchills bedroom, as he liked to know what was happening, when it
was happening! The room is not open to the general public, and is only shown to special
visitors, so we feel very privileged to be able to transmit from there. From here we will
be trying to make contact using a Mark 123 spy set. With favourable propogation and a good
tail wind we could do it!
The Director General of the Bletchley Park Trust, Sir Philip Duncombe, will also be
sending greetings. Messages will also be sent by Mr. Dave McQue G4NJU, who is
Vice-Chairman of the Radio Society of Great Britain. We will also hope to link you up with
Beaumanor Hall in Leicestershire where enigma coded traffic from Rommel was intercepted
during the war and fed back to Bletchley Park via a secure teleprinter link for decoding.
The special event team there is being run by Mr. Peter Crooks. I believe that such a
'triangle' of what must be three of the most historic sites of World War 2, has never
happened before, and certainly from this side of the Atlantic, there is huge interest in
the event. We will keep you informed of events as they take place here in England.

Event Operating Equipment
We will be using a Kenwood TS 850S from GB2BP, through a 200 Watt linear
amplifier, and into a three element beam. We will also have an Icom 740 on stand by, and a
variety of other antennas. When we transmit from Station X, we will be using an Icom 728
with 100 Watts into a long wire antenna, and if propogation is favourable a Mark 123 spy
set with 30 Watts into a long wire antenna.
