The North Shore ARC holds club meetings monthly. Members
and non-members are warmly
invited to
attend. We meet the third Monday of each month at 19:30EST at Branch 43 of the Royal Canadian Legion, 471 Simcoe Street South in Oshawa. Bar facilities are available after the regular club meeting should members wish to stay. Simcoe St., just north of the 401. 2005 Meeting Schedule: See you at the next meeting!
Grant Butcher, VA3KJI - November, 2004 Grant, a maintenance supervisor at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, gave a very informative presentation on how our local plant produces energy.
Bill was fortunate enough to be on vacation in Florida recently when a hurricane blew through. Bill recounted his experiences from both an amateur and visitor point of view. We are glad that no harm came to Bill or his family. Bill is a member of the South Pickering ARC.
Mike Maclean, VE3VCY - February, 2003 North Shore ARC's very own Mike Maclean demonstrated the do's and don'ts of tower climbing including the proper use of related safety equipment. As long as the tower is correctly installed Mike is not afraid to climb. Mike has even been known to scale those large, several hundred foot, towers that you see dotting the horizon so our 40 and 50 foot towers are a piece of cake for him.
Winston entertained us with his usual, uniquely Winston, humour. Winston was a member of the NSARC for many years before retiring and turning his summer cottage into his retirement palace. Winston has quite a long list of accomplishments in amateur radio including several DXpeditions, setting up unique operating stations while on vacations, an accomplished writer having been published in several of the big name ham magazines, as well as proudly gaining the "worked all neighbors" award. Recently, Winston added another accomplishment to that list when he was asked to be the keynote speaker at that national RAC Convention in BC. Thank you, Winston, for doing
your part in making our hobby as entertaining as it is.
Tom Domonkos, VE3FCK,
was our guest speaker at our May
2002 meeting. Tom gave a great presentation on Reginald Fessenden the
inventor of wireless voice communications. Tom also had a presentation on
the COBRA (Canadian Operators Bringing Regional Assistance) club emergency
trailer. Thanks Tom!
